For the sixth consecutive day, al-Masjid al-Aqṣā remains closed.

One of the most serious developments in recent days has been the continued closure of al-Masjid al-Aqṣā. What is sacred to the Muslims is being targeted in the most sacred month. This marks a dangerous escalation aimed at seizing and consolidating control over al-Masjid al-Aqṣā.

A Kind Request to Imams and khatībs:
Please use your platforms this Jumuʿah to inform the Ummah about the gravity of what is unfolding at al-Masjid al-Aqṣā and its central place in Islam.

Let us all make sincere duʿā’ for al-Masjid al-Aqṣā and for the Muslims of Palestine and around the world.

O Allah, protect al-Masjid al-Aqṣā from the plots of the criminals and fill its courtyards with worshippers.

Allah is Greater than every oppressor and criminal.

    Surah al-Hujurat - Reflection 16
Pure Hearts, Pure Tongues

• “Do not find fault with one another.” Allah says ‘anfusakum: yourselves’ i.e. when you find faults in others, it’s as though you’re finding your own faults, because the believers are as one soul. To wound your brother is to wound yourself. The scholars explained that this includes fault-finding, slander, and backbiting, all of which corrode the bonds of īmān.

• Next comes the command: “And do not call each other by offensive nicknames.” This forbids addressing a person with a name or description they dislike, especially when it carries humiliation or contempt. Such conduct is forcefully condemned: “How evil is wrongdoing after faith.” Either it is a return to sin after īmān, or it is the ugliness of branding a believer with corruption after Allah has honoured them with īmān. In both cases, the warning is severe.

• Allah concludes with a decisive principle: “And whoever does not repent, it is they who are the wrongdoers.” These traits, though often dismissed as minor, are sins that require repentance. Persisting in them is injustice to oneself before it is injustice to others.

• The scholars and the righteous predecessors repeatedly warned against these hidden vices. Mockery corrupts the heart and erodes away at one’s īmān. Imām Mālik said: “I encountered, in this city — meaning Madinah — people who themselves had no faults, yet they criticised others, and as a result, faults appeared in them. I also encountered people who had faults, yet they remained silent regarding the faults of others, and as a result, their faults were forgotten.”

Reflect: How does this āyah (and sūrah) teach you that akhlāq is a core element of the din?

Act: Spend time thinking about who you may have mocked, insulted or called names. Spend some time making duʿā’ for them tonight and ask Allah to forgive you.

We often struggle to stand throughout the entire night, and feel sad at not being able to stand for long hours like our pious predecessors used to. There is, however, something we can do to mitigate this: remain in the masjid until the imām finishes.
