The Qur’an Amazed the Jinn
“Say, (O Prophet,) “It has been revealed to me that a group of jinn listened (to the Quran,) and said (to their fellow jinn): ‘Indeed, we have heard an amazing recitation.” (72:1)
Just by listening to the Qur’ān, the jinn’s hearts were filled with wonder, awe, and submission. Its guidance moved them instantly, inspiring belief and humility.
Reflect: If even the jinn were amazed by the Qur’ān, how deeply are we allowing it to move our hearts and transform our lives?
Seek Protection From The All-Powerful
وَأَنَّهُ كَانَ رِجَالٌ مِّنَ الْإِنسِ يَعُوْذُوْنَ بِرِجَالٍ مِّنَ الْجِنِّ فَزَادُوْهُمْ رَهَقًا
“And some men used to seek refuge with some jinn, and thus they increased them (the Jinns) in arrogance.” (72:6)
- In the Days of Ignorance (jāhiliyyah), people feared the jinn and would seek their help to protect themselves, their families and their wealth when entering desolate valleys. Ibn Kathīr (raḥimahullāh) explains that the jinn, seeing humans turn to them in fear, would increase their harm and terror, rather than provide relief.
- Whenever people sought refuge from the jinn instead of Allah, the jinn would cause confusion, madness and distress.
- This is a timeless lesson: whoever turns to anyone but Allah in hope of benefit or protection will only be met with fear, anxiety, and disappointment. If it is foolish to rely on a miserly human, how much greater is the folly of relying on weak, powerless beings instead of the One True God who is the All-Powerful, the Eternal Refuge?
Reflect: Who do you turn to in moments of distress?
The Beauty of Servitude to Allah
وَأَنَّهُ لَمَّا قَامَ عَبْدُ اللّٰهِ يَدْعُوْهُ كَادُوْا يَكُوْنُوْنَ عَلَيْهِ لِبَدًا
“Yet when the servant of Allah stood up calling upon Him, [the pagans] almost swarmed over him.” (72:19)
Ibn al-Qayyim (raḥimahullāh) beautifully said, “Consider how the Prophet ﷺ is described as the ‘servant of Allah’ in the Qur’ān:
- “Yet when the servant of Allah stood up calling upon Him…” (17:1)
- “Exalted is He who took His servant on a journey by night…” (25:1)
- “…if you are in doubt about what We have sent down upon Our servant, then produce a surah like it…” (2:23)
This is because everything that is attributed to the Beloved (Allah) becomes beloved.”
The title of ‘servant of Allah’ is not a mark of weakness, but of honour, closeness, and exaltation.
Reflect: Do we recognise our servitude to Allah as an immense honour and privilege?
Allah’s Knowledge Encompasses All Things
وَأَحْصَىٰ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ عَدَدًا
And He keeps account of everything..” (72:28)
No human system of statistics or measurement — no matter how advanced — can compare to this. Even the largest global census centres cover only limited aspects of reality, over short spans of time, and often rely on estimates that may be right or wrong. In contrast, Allah’s knowledge is perfect, complete and eternal, encompassing all past, present and future.
Reflect: If Allah’s knowledge encompasses everything in existence, from the tiniest atom to the farthest star, can anything truly escape His sight? How often do we rely on our limited understanding while forgetting that every detail of our lives is known and accounted for by Him?

![This morning, more than 3,000 Israeli settlers stormed and desecrated the blessed al-Masjid al-Aqṣā [with the number expected to rise throughout the day] in an incursion led by the criminal minister Ben-Gvir.
Under heavy police protection, settlers raised Israeli flags, performed Talmudic rituals, sang the Israeli national anthem, and danced in the courtyards of the blessed sanctuary.
The storming of al-Masjid al-Aqṣā has become just another passing news story. The occupation continues to escalate its violations of one of Islam's most sacred sites, while the world watches in silence.
O Allah, protect the blessed al-Masjid al-Aqṣā and its worshippers. Liberate this blessed sanctuary from occupation and oppression, and purify it from the clutches of the Zionists.
