1. Remembering Allah

Remember Me; I will remember you. And thank Me, and never be ungrateful. (2:152)

2. Being grateful to Allah

And (remember) when your Lord proclaimed, ‘If you are grateful, I will certainly give you more. But if you are ungrateful, surely My punishment is severe.’” (14:7)

3. Spending for the sake of Allah

O believers! Donate from what We have provided for you before the arrival of a Day when there will be no bargaining, friendship, or intercession. Those who disbelieve are (truly) the wrongdoers. (2:254)

4. Pondering over the signs of Allah

Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the day and night there are signs for people of reason. (3:190)

5. Being patient

O believers! Seek comfort in patience and prayer. Allah is truly with those who are patient. (2:153)

6. Having khushūʿ in ṣalāh

Successful indeed are the believers: those who humble themselves in prayer. (23:1-2)

7. Speaking the truth

O believers! Be mindful of Allah and be with the truthful. (9:119)

8. Refraining from idle talk and all useless acts

(Successful indeed are the believers:) those who avoid idle talk. (23:3)

9. Being selfless

As for those who had settled in the city and (embraced) the faith before (the arrival of) the emigrants, they love whoever immigrates to them, never having a desire in their hearts for whatever (of the gains) is given to the emigrants. They give (the emigrants) preference over themselves even though they may be in need. And whoever is saved from the selfishness of their own souls, it is they who are (truly) successful. (59:9)

10. Concealing others’ faults

Indeed, those who love to see indecency spread among the believers will suffer a painful punishment in this life and the Hereafter. Allah knows and you do not know. (24:19)

11. Maintaining ties of kinship

Righteousness is not in turning your faces towards the east or the west. Rather, the righteous are those who believe in Allah, the Last Day, the angels, the Books, and the prophets; who give charity out of their cherished wealth to relatives, orphans, the poor, (needy) travellers, beggars, and for freeing captives; who establish prayer, pay alms-tax, and keep the pledges they make; and who are patient in times of suffering, adversity, and in (the heat of) battle. It is they who are true (in faith), and it is they who are mindful (of Allah). (2:177)

12. Being kind and dutiful to parents

For your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And honour your parents. If one or both of them reach old age in your care, never say to them (even) ‘uff,’ nor yell at them. Rather, address them respectfully. And be humble with them out of mercy, and pray, “My Lord! Be merciful to them as they raised me when I was young.” (17:23-4)

13. Being good to the poor and travellers

So give your close relatives their due, as well as the poor and the (needy) traveller. That is best for those who seek the pleasure of Allah, and it is they who will be successful. (30:38)

14. Honouring neighbours and being kind to orphans

Worship Allah (alone) and associate none with Him. And be kind to parents, relatives, orphans, the poor, near and distant neighbours, close friends, (needy) travellers, and those (bondspeople) in your possession. Surely Allah does not like whoever is arrogant, boastful. (4:36)

15. Being forgiving and letting go of grudges

Be gracious, enjoin what is right, and turn away from those who act ignorantly. (7:199)

16. Being just and fair

And do not come near the wealth of the orphan—unless intending to enhance it—until they attain maturity. Give full measure and weigh with justice. We never require of any soul more than what it can afford. Whenever you speak, maintain justice—even regarding a close relative. And fulfil your covenant with Allah. This is what He has commanded you, so perhaps you will be mindful. (6:152)

17. Wiping away and evil deed with a good deed

Establish prayer (O Prophet) at both ends of the day and in the early part of the night. Surely good deeds wipe out evil deeds. That is a reminder for the mindful. (11:114)

18. Lowering the gaze

(O Prophet!) Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and guard their chastity. That is purer for them. Surely Allah is All-Aware of what they do. And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and guard their chastity, and not to reveal their adornments except what normally appears. Let them draw their veils over their chests, and not reveal their (hidden) adornments except to their husbands, their fathers, their fathers-in-law, their sons, their stepsons, their brothers, their brothers’ sons or sisters’ sons, their fellow women, those (bondwomen) in their possession, male attendants with no desire, or children who are still unaware of women’s nakedness. Let them not stomp their feet, drawing attention to their hidden adornments. Turn to Allah in repentance all together, O believers, so that you may be successful. (24:30-31)

19. Being compassionate and kind

And—above all—to be one of those who have faith and urge each other to perseverance and urge each other to compassion. (90:17)

20. Swallowing anger

And hasten towards forgiveness from your Lord and a Paradise as vast as the heavens and the earth, prepared for those mindful (of Allah). (They are) those who donate in prosperity and adversity, control their anger, and pardon others. And Allah loves the good-doers. (3:133-4)
